Army of Two: The 40th Day Weapon Design Contest Winners Announced!

Ron Yatco

The time has arrived to unveil the winners of the Army of Two: The 40th Day Weapon Design Contest.  The contest opened up to the public on July 12th, and almost immediately started filling up with hundreds of entries from across North America and Europe.  When Army of Two: The 40th Day releases in stores Early 2010, players will be able to unlock these special weapons only if they have a saved game file from the original Army of Two on their hard drives!  So if you haven't played Army of Two yet, get out there and go kick some co-op ass!  The team from EA Montreal was overwhelmed with the quality of this year's entries.  Unfortunately, only two winners could be selected so without further ado, please have a look at the fan made entries that will be modeled for use in Army of Two: The 40th Day!

AS-KR1 "The Ass Kicker" Rifle Submitted by Angryjoeshow1

Description:

The AS-KR1 dubbed "The Ass Kicker" chambers 7.62x39 ammo, providing pinpoint accuracy with use of a built-in range scope. The operator can load up to 3 types of ammo for the underslug shotgun. Normal shells, "Smart shells" for airburst eliminating targets behind cover and finally a non-lethal solution for crowd control, the Tazer Shell - which deploys fins and shock spikes after exiting the chamber - capable of delivering enough watts to completely override the central nervous system of any sized target.

When asked about the AS-KR1 Rifle, Army of Two Creative Director Alex Hutchinson said, "It was something we could build within our game systems which stood out from the real world guns we were building - some people were worried that it was a little Science Fiction, but we really wanted these guns to be fun, so I think that works."

Although the AS-KR1 boasts some pretty badass ammo as designed, the team from EA Montreal mentions that some tweaks will have to be made to this gun's ammo system in order to fully work with the game's balancing.

Sniper Launcher Submitted by Uberblargh

Description:

This nugget of awesome is a combination sniper rifle/grenade launcher! The extended clipazine holds plenty of specialized rounds, while the hopper on top holds small grenades that can blow anything up! The 2 scopes improve accuracy. This weapon, invented by Mack of Future Weapons, combines the firepower of a grenade launcher with the accuracy of a sniper rifle. However, it is bolt-action, which means it is slow to reload.

Of the Sniper Launcher, Alex Hutchinson mentions, "This one was great for gameplay, and was something we thought people would get a kick out of using in the game on a second playthrough. It's a bit unbalanced, so not something we were going to make ourselves for the core game, but I think players will get a kick out of it."

Now that the winners have been selected, Alex mentions that the team is quickly getting to work on getting them into the game, "We've already begun modeling them, then we'll start testing them to see how they feel, and try to make sure that they're satisfying and cool."

The entire team from EA Montreal would like to thank all the fans who participated in the Weapon Design Contest whether by submitting an entry, or voting on your favorite weapon.  We hope you enjoy the playing with the winning selections when Army of Two: The 40th Day releases in stores!
